Something a little different from the Mcdonalds office this week.

The last few months have been kind to me and Mulder. Our work with the unexplained has even given us a small amount of fame, our inbox seems to be filling up and the hits on our websites are gaining pace. With this in mind we have decided to bring someone new into the team, Marvin the Paranoid Android has decided to join us! we will give you some more details about him in our about us section over the next few weeks, but for now we wanted to welcome him by publishing a few words from a book hes currently writing.

So wheres the Berwyn crash site?

We have been away from the Berwyn blog for too long, we have always had fun writing and promoting it.


I’d like to take you back to what started all this for us. Sitting in my office playing around on Facebook at the start of this year I was joined by a new work colleague, a young handsome chap that now goes by the name of Fox Mulder!


Anyway, having to break the ice I cracked some rubbish joke about E.T needing to borrow my bike and running up a huge phone bill at my mum’s house! Expecting to see the normal blank stare that I always get when I mention space I was surprised to hear his response he asked me if I’d heard of the Berwyn UFO crash. Well as you can guess our careers pretty much ended at that point with Google being our new occupation!

Porton Down

I know its been a long time since my last post but we have been on holiday up north looking for yeti!


Following on from our now not so recent visit to Bala, it was obvious that Porton Down needed to be investigated further. Mulder had been excited by the site for sometime, even liking it to area 51.

Was ET in Bala?

Some sketchy reports may lead you to believe so.

Part way through our third Big Mac we began day dreaming of ET and what it would mean for a small town like Bala if he had really been there. Would it really look like a welsh Roswel? we had to find out...

Leukaemia cluster

What is it?


A leukaemia cluster is an area with a high number of leakaemia cases, which may or may not have a cause other than chance. Leakamia and other types of cancer clusters can sometimes be linked to areas of high radiation, a good example of which is a 4,000 square mile area of Balarus that the Russians cloud seeded to save Moscow during the melt down at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

Fallen eagles

I stumbled across a book called fallen eagles during our research and have been unsure on how to fit it into this blog for a while now. What the book tells us is that the Berwyn is a very difficult place to navigate by air, with fierce dawn-draughts and very unpredictable weather. The book itself got us thinking about the witnesses first thoughts of a plane crash being the cause of the bang and earthquake. We plan to go into more detail on the plane crash theory in a later blog, below is a small list taken from the book of the plane crashes that occurred on the Berwyn.

Operation photoflash

let me get one thing straight from the start, operation photoflash is one of the most far fetched things myself and Mulder have ever heard. When the info landed on our desk we both started to laugh, the fact that someone from the MOD had come up with an idea to build a giant flash light that can be seen under the sea to flush out hiding UFOs seems crazy to us. Can you imagine being a fly on the wall when someone from the MOD asked the bean counters for the money to build it!

Black helicopter

Visits from men in black often go hand in hand with sightings of black helicopters in America. After a bit of research we have found this seems to be the case with the Berwyn incident as well.


During the autumn of 1973 up on the Berwyn, a helicopter was spotted by beaters flying very low in bad weather. The witnesses said it appeared to be looking for something or attempting to land, as the beaters got near to the helicopter it flew off into the clouds.

Men in black

Some of the key witnesses from the Berwyn incident claimed to have been visited by men in black - No not the film but a term used to describe government officials.


Who are they?


Well in America the name is widely used and is thought to be a secret division of the FBI. Many witnesses to strange events have reported visits by men smartly dressed in black suits, saying that they have been brain washed or talked into keeping quite about what they have seen.
Although the brain washing part is hard to believe there is very strong evidence to suggest that men black do exist. In the UK reports of visits go back to the second world war. Because of the experimental air craft and rockets the Nazis used against our country it was in the government's best interest to investigate UFO's and the like. This was done by MOD officials, they would interview the witnesses after an incident to gather intelligence. Many unexplained events in the UK were followed up by these visits and still are even today. It is thought that there's tens of thousands of intelligence files gathered by the MOD locked away from the British public that are to sensitive to ever be published.

Setting the scene. What are the Berwyns?

The Berwyns is a mountain range which is located high above our village and stretches for miles in each direction.

So what the hell is earthquake light I hear you ask?

Well a big clue is in the name. Earthquake light is a very rare naturally occurring type of light that can be seen before, during and after an earthquake. Although scientists know the trigger very little studies have been done. This is mostly down to the rarity and the fact that nobody is sure how to predict them.
One theory is that the light is seen because of upsets in the earth's magnetic field caused by an earthquake.
So during an earthquake the magnetic field that sits between us and natural light in the sky becomes distorted, this separates the visible white light that the human eye sees into its reflective index showing all the colours that it is made up of (imagine a rainbow but shaped more like a ball).
I know what your thinking - it was dark when this happened, well a scientist would tell you that light is always around us no matter how dark things look.

The official explanation

A large bang along with a number of unusual lights in the sky were observed, followed by a dramatic shaking of the earth, which lasted approximately 4 to 5 seconds. It was considered possible that an aircraft had crashed, or a meteorite had impacted. Within an hour, police searched the Berwyn Mountains and were joined by an RAF rescue team from Valley on Anglesey. Nothing was found, and all searches were called off at just after 2 p.m. the following day.

When we were growing up the older kids told us stories of the strange things that have happened in and around our village, one of the stories I was told was of a UFO crash on the Berwyn mountains. Myself and Mulder think it would be best for you to hear this story first before we begin to piece together the findings of our investigation.
